PREVENT

Flying Eaglets Roadmap™ · Our Approach

See the Signs.
Support the Learner.

PREVENT helps schools, families and communities recognise learner drift early and respond with practical support—before challenges become harder to address.

01

Small signs deserve attention.

Changes in participation, motivation, confidence or routines are opportunities to listen, understand and provide support.

Why PREVENT matters

Every learner deserves to be noticed before they are overlooked.

Learner difficulties do not always begin with poor marks. Sometimes the first signs are withdrawal, inconsistent effort, loss of confidence, reduced participation or uncertainty about the future.

PREVENT encourages adults to look beyond visible behaviour, ask thoughtful questions and identify appropriate support before concerns deepen.

  • Recognise changes in engagement and learning habits.
  • Listen to the learner's experience and perspective.
  • Strengthen relationships with caring adults.
  • Connect learners with relevant support and follow-up.
A different starting point

Ask before you assume.

Instead of labelling a learner as lazy or uninterested, begin with curiosity: What might this learner be experiencing, and what support could help?

Behind a change in behaviour, there may be a need that has not yet been heard.
The PREVENT focus

Notice. Understand. Respond.

PREVENT turns early awareness into supportive action. It is not about predicting a learner's future; it is about responding constructively to present needs.

01

Notice the signs

Pay attention to changes in participation, attendance, effort, relationships, confidence or learning routines.

02

Understand the learner

Make space for conversation. Explore barriers, strengths, interests, responsibilities and the learner's own goals.

03

Connect to support

Agree on practical next steps, involve appropriate adults and check whether support is making a difference.

Where support begins

Make early support part of everyday learner care.

A

At school

Notice changes in engagement and create safe opportunities for learners to ask for help.

B

At home

Build supportive conversations, routines and realistic expectations around learning and wellbeing.

C

In the community

Connect learners with positive role models, encouragement and appropriate local resources.

D

Through follow-up

Check in consistently so that a conversation becomes the beginning of support—not the end.

The learner's journey

Early support with a clear direction.

The DIPPA–Follow-up™ Framework connects self-understanding with purposeful action and ongoing support.

01Identity

Who am I?

02Dream

03Purpose

Why does it matter?

04Plan

How will I get there?

05Action

What must I do now?

06Follow-up

How will I monitor, reinforce and adjust?
